The development of “Her Holiness
Maasoumeh ”mausoleum will be implemented according
to the program provided by the client in 19000 square
meters, in a plot of land located south west of the
mausoleum complex. The built area of the new complex
will sum up to 27600 square meters, the main element
of which is a grand mosque with an area of 12000 square
meters. The ministry of Housing and Urban Development
held the competition for this project in the summer
1999. The entry submitted by NJP focuses on three main
issues:
• The spatial organization of the new complex
and its linkage to the existing mausoleum complex.
• Architectural characteristics of the new complex.
• Design of the mosque.
The
design is based on these considerations:
The variety of existing colors, volumes and spaces of
the mausoleum complex necessitates the deployment of
a horizontal, low height, calm and monochrome architecture,
avoiding from massive volumes and grandiose forms, and
specially avoiding the reproduction of existing forms
and volumes of the mausoleum complex.
Also the architectural language of the new part should
establish the basis of new urban regeneration of the
city of Qom.
