Moali Abad Residential Complex
Shiraz-Iran -1998

This residential complex is situated in Moali Abad region, north west of Shiraz and in the middle of Ghasr-ol- Dasht Gardens. The formation of this new- built urban fabric is the consequence of the enlargement of Shiraz during the recent years. The overall spatial configuration of the complex is engendered in accordance to the morphological situation of the site, its slope, movement directions, and its view to Estesghae Mountain and the sun position.

In addition, the other important design implication has been to consider all the apartment buildings as a part of a coherent and unified complex and to prevent the single-block composition of the buildings.

Thus the overall spatial configuration of the site is as follows:
The five main blocks are designed parallel to each other along the width of the site. With this configuration, each block can benefit from both the light and the view to Estesghae Mountain. In order to prevent the shading effect of the buildings on each other, the height of the blocks is reduced along the north-south axis of the site.

These five blocks are connected to each other via the wall- shape eastern body of the complex, which is comprised of 4-story blocks. The special configuration of these five main blocks and the eastern body has brought about the possibility of designing gardens in between the blocks. These gardens are open to the open-air spaces on the west body of the site.
A prism-shaped 16-story tower is located on the very north part of the site, which is also its narrowest section. This tower is like an end point for the complex. On the opposite section of the site a set of public low-height buildings has completed the complex.
In order to enhance the vitality of the complex a set of stores are predicted along the west front of the site parallel to the western street.

The overall built area of the project is 82000 sq.meters, which comprises of 598 single apartments (each with an area of 50-200 sq.m). 25000 sq.m of the complex is dedicated to public open spaces and 908 sq.m of it is considered as commercial units.
