Kansai-Kan of the National diet library
Kansai.kan-Iran 1996

This project was designed for the international design competition of National Library of Japan in Kansai city in 1996.The design concept is based on combining three entities with three different characters, whose common feature is just their existence.

One of them is a “void”; its emergence is the result of the interaction of the two other. The two other entities are in contrast with each other: one is smooth and transparent; the other is opaque and solid. In fact these are two cubes that their proximity creates traction between the two and transforms the flat surfaces into twisted forms. The space “in between” the two makes the body of the “void” .The solid opaque cube, which is made of steel, serves as the closed storage .The transparent smooth crystalline cube houses other spaces of the library. The third entity, the “void” that merely embodies light and space, represents the creativity that results from the formation of human thought, which should be crystallized with something beyond physical objectivity.
This proposal received honorable mention.
