Isfahan Master Plan
Isfahan-Iran 1986
In order to procure the master plan of Isahan, recognition and analysis of the city’s present condition was the first necessary step. Then the regulations of the revised master plan of Isfahan were defined. The most important principals of the master plan that conduced to the revised plan are as follows:

1. Because of the prominence of preserving the city’s urban configuration and the importance of the city’s main structure, any proposed plan should be congruent with these two factors and should consider their organic evolution
2. The main structure of Isfahan comprises two axes that are perpendicular to each other.

The first axis is the natural axis of Zayande-Rood River and the second one is the city’s man-made axis. This second axis, which has evolved during 1000 years, flows from the Jami Mosque and reaches to the southern part of the city. This part is the most elevated site in Isfahan in which the hezar-Jarib Gardens were located.
The main objective of the present plan is to revitalize the main structure of Isfahan and to continue its evolutionary process.
